See the pages AI reads to answer your buyers
AI engines cite the pages your buyers already trust — not your homepage. RankSurf records the exact pages each engine read to answer your prompts, ranks them by how often they're read, shows which brands AI named in those answers, and gives you a playbook for each kind of source — no external tools required.
How it works
The barnacle GEO workflow, step by step
Barnacle GEO is the practice of earning citations on third-party pages AI already trusts, instead of only building your own. Answer sources runs it automatically after every scan, surfacing the pages AI cited for your tracked prompts and competitors.
01
Citation Source Map
Every scan records the exact pages each engine used to answer your tracked prompts. RankSurf groups them by site, classifies by source type (listicle, review site, Reddit thread, directory), counts how often each is cited, and shows which brands AI named in those same answers. Being on a page and being named in the answer are different things — we only report what we've measured.
02
Source Playbooks
Every opportunity ships with a human-written playbook for its exact source type — how a listicle editor takes submissions, what a Reddit thread tolerates, which fields matter on a directory listing. We deliberately don't mass-produce pitch emails and fire them on your behalf — a templated blast doesn't earn a real placement, so we never built one.
03
Proof in the Answer
Your prompts keep running on schedule, so your visibility numbers are re-measured on every scan. Two things we don't do: we don't re-crawl the page to confirm it changed, and we don't yet attribute a change in your visibility to any single source. You get the measurement, not a causal story we can't back.
vs the alternatives
One integrated tool. No assembly required.
Other approaches to barnacle outreach require stitching together 3–4 separate paid tools. RankSurf ships the full workflow natively — pulled directly from the same prompts and competitors you already track.
| Capability | RankSurf | Others |
|---|---|---|
| In-product, no external tools | Peec: DIY recipe (Firecrawl + Hunter.io + Gmail) | |
| Built from your own tracked prompts | Chosenly / ListBrew: separate dataset | |
| Human-written, source-specific playbooks | Most tools: generic content tips, not source-specific | |
| Done/declined + progress tracking | Not available natively in any monitored competitor | |
| SMB pricing (from $89/mo) | Profound: enterprise, requires demo call |
